When the Right found out Alysa Liu is woke, they celebrated her. When the Left found out the men's hockey team is partial to Trump, they turned on them.
What the coverage surrounding the Olympics revealed about our broken media
You don’t hate the media enough. You think you do, but you don’t.
The media coverage of the Olympics has been atrocious, dripping with disdain for the patriotism the Olympics exist to fan. Athletes who trashed the U.S. became heroes to the liberal media. Athletes who covered themselves in the American flag were immediately suspect.
But nothing beats the way the liberal media has turned on the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team after they took a phone call from the President.
Of course, it started before then. There was the heinous Huffington Post article, whose headline read, “If waving the American flag or chanting “USA!” turns you off right now, you're not alone.”
But it went into overdrive after President Trump called into the locker room after they won the gold and made a joke after inviting the guys to the State of the Union, that he’d have to invite the women’s hockey team, too.
Cue the liberal media meltdown:
Why US men’s hockey team is under fire after call with Trump
Jack Hughes talks Trump backlash over women’s team
Flavor Flav is among women’s hockey team fans outraged by presidential snub
U.S. men’s hockey team is celebrating with Trump. The women aren’t. What’s going on?
Just take a minute to compare the way the New York Times’ sports vertical, The Athletic, covered Eileen Gu, an American-born traitor who chose to compete for China, and the way the same publication covered our boys on the men’s hockey team, who brought home the gold in the last sporting event of the Olympics.
Here’s how they describe Eileen Gu in an absolutely fawning piece: “The scientist, politician, skier, model, and student is like a magician, the audience dazzled by her mastery but somewhat irked by how she does it.”
For real? “Scientist, politician, skier, model, and student”? Are you kidding me?
Maybe the audience isn’t “irked.” Maybe they think it’s an utter disgrace to be raised an American, to be granted all the benefits this great nation has to offer, then turn around and compete for our greatest adversary. Maybe they think competing for one of the globe’s worst human rights abusers is beneath contempt.
Compare that to how the same publication covered the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team, which brought home the gold and then covered themselves in American flags, telling the world in interview after interview how much they adore their homeland.
Here’s the New York Times: “The U.S. men’s hockey team won Olympic gold for the first time since the ‘Miracle on Ice’ 46 years ago, and for a time, the joy belonged to everyone. By the next day, it didn’t.”
Why? What happened? How did they manage to lose all that joy?
They took a call from the President of the United States, laughed at a dumb joke he made, and accepted an invitation to attend the State of the Union as his guests.
That’s it. That was enough to lose them the love and respect of the New York Times.
So just to recap: For the New York Times, if you are a traitor to your homeland and represent a regime committing genocide and jailing dissidents, you will get called a scientist, politician, skier, model, student, and magician who “irks” people due to your outrageous fabulousness.
But if you are the men’s hockey team of the United States of America, win an incredible Olympic gold medal in overtime, and unite the nation around this glorious win, you will get trashed as divisive losers by the New York Times for taking a call from the President of the United States.
It’s just appalling.
On Sunday, I wrote about a funny meme on the Left, where Leftists were mocking conservatives for praising women’s figure skater and Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu because Liu has liberal politics. “Don’t you know she’s woke?” they kept posting, incapable of even conceptualizing that to the Right, her politics just don’t matter, because she competed proudly for her country. In fact, I wrote, I love Alysa Liu even more if she’s woke—because she left her personal politics at home, outside the Olympics, so we could all cheer her on.
When the Left came out mocking conservatives for praising Liu, they were telling on themselves, I argued: The Left cannot fathom cheering on an athlete or really anyone who they know conclusively does not share their politics. Such people don’t get cheered—they get hounded.
This New York Times article about the men’s hockey team is exactly that: Having discovered that these guys probably like Trump, the New York Times turned on them.
That’s what we learned this week:
When the Right found out that Alysa Liu was a liberal, they celebrated her.
When the Left found out the hockey team liked Trump, they turned on them.

Leftists must be exhausted. Every morning, noon and night. Balled up with anger and hatred. Biding their time by sharpening their claws, gnashing their teeth, their panties wrapped around their own axle. Then bedtime. Rolling around in bed sweat. Twisting the covers into knots. Staring at the ceiling and plotting. Then springing out of bed to launch a diatribe on X, or Blue Sky. Checking bank balances in order to Venmo the last bits of cash to the DNC. They're like failed comedians at the mic or camera, trying to get a moment from their dozens of acolytes. They are the Eloi. The Morlocks. Dr Evil, Mr Big- the leader of KAOS from Get Smart. Watching today's Dems is akin to watching a rerun of an old favorite TV show from 40 years ago and realizing it is incredibly crass, witless, brain dead backwash.
The leftist media is so angry to see its outrage machine losing its power
